Symmetry – A Review of Their Coffee

An Australian style restaurant and bar known more for food and cocktails, their coffee surprised and impressed me. Situated in the bustling district close to Arab Street, I visited Symmetry on 26th June 2020 with a few friends for catch up post ‘Circuit Breaker’ here in Singapore.

Entrance to Symmetry cafe

Easy to find if you’re coming by foot, little harder if taking the car. I drove in on a Friday afternoon and didn’t realize how busy it would be because of Friday prayers at the Mosque nearby. I spent fifteen minutes going in circles, finding a parking space. Don’t lack foresight like Aalap and plan in advance!
Fun fact; Symmetry gets its name because it’s situated right across the old cemetery. You know what to look for in case you are lost!

Ambience –
The warm lighting along with big windows to let sunlight in does set up a very nice atmosphere. The inside is a little crowded with lots of tables and chairs to navigate around. Outdoor seating is available.
7/10

Aroma –
Bitter with sweet tones. I knew I had a great cup of coffee as soon as I could smell the coffee being brought over.
8/10

Flat White

Presentation –
Lovely latte art, a cute little biscuit with a quaint looking spoon.
8/10

Body and Taste –
The coffee tasted silky, plush and delicate with an almost perfect ratio of espresso to milk. There was no lingering bitter aftertaste. The biscuit, although very adorable, was soft, soggy and a little tasteless.
8/10

Cost –
The flat white along with other espresso-style coffee was priced at a reasonable $5.50. Their menu has a whole host of other drinks such as Iced Coffee, Tim Tam Hot Chocolate and Iced Dirty Matcha, to name just a few.
8/10

The verdict –
The espresso coffee and steamed milk complemented each other beautifully. The atmosphere is great, and if the sun’s out with a little cloud cover, the outdoor seating is perfect.
Overall score = 39/50 or 78%
